Mama In Maine

My mom just came to spend a week here with me in Maine. Most people were questioning why I would ever have my mom visit during the dead of winter. While the summer may have been a more ideal time, I haven’t been able to schedule a trip home since last summer, and I needed to see my momma. Regardless of the temperature outside, any time of year is a great time to make new memories.

We had so much fun exploring. We went snowshoeing in Camden hills state park. Walking on the snow covered Old Orchard beach. Went skiing at Sunday River. Took the dogs for a walk at Recompence campground When the weather wasn’t cooperating, we opted to stay in and hang out in front of a cozy fire.

Since we don’t get to spend nearly as much time as either one of us would like, last summer we started a tradition of photographing our toes on the beach. We have been sharing long walks on the beach since I was a teeny tot. I look forward to building a collection from all over the place.

The last time my mom visited I had only lived here a few months. I was wallowing in homesickness and day dreams of greener pastures in close proximity to my family. The energy has definitely changed, but I have also changed and grown on this journey. I realized that I sabotaged much of my own happiness by not being present in my life.

I may not be here forever, but Maine is my home right now, and this is my current adventure. Why is it that so often we dismiss today for promises of brighter tomorrow? Perhaps it is part of our human condition, and the dreaming helps get us through the tough parts.

Either way, Maine has carved out a very special place in my heart, and my mom got to get a taste of all that this place offers year round. I hope we can get her out here this summer to experience first hand what our summer dreams are made of.

Miss you already  mom. Looking forward to a time when we spend more of our days side by side. XO
