Ruby is my girl. She is this woman’s best friend. She likes to sit in the front seat like a person while I drive with the windows down belting out a song. She is the protector of her family, and at night, the love bug that shamelessly curls under the covers.
I have been wanting to include the dogs on a self portrait shoot for while, and have attempted (unsuccessfully) a few times. Ruby included herself in this shot, and really made it all happen.
I took both dogs out, hoping for a shot before they got too cold. The snow was iced over, and somewhat slippery to walk on. I told the dogs to go back because Ruby has been limping and I didn’t want her to fall down. Clyde listened and seemed more than happy to do his own thing. But Ruby would not leave my side. I loved the angelic way the light bounced off her reddish fur, and started snapping photos of her, when I realized she had setup the shot. I quickly setup my tripod, and so this shot was made.
Thanks to my favorite girl, who loves me each day and is always happy to simply walk by my side.
