Dandilions and Down Dogs

Most of my daily interactions with people somehow involve the weather. I don’t know why, but it seems that most humans talk about the weather, or want to, or perhaps they don’t know what else to talk about. On any given day, at the deli, I have about 100 conversations about the weather. And that is a literal figure my friends.

It makes sense that people want to talk about it. It is the one thing we are all experiencing together on any given day. And yet, people have such different interpretations of the weather. I find it very fascinating. Most people complain about the weather, no matter what it is. It seems to take a really perfect day, with sunshine, moderate temps and light breezes to get the masses singing praises about mother nature’s mood.

This spring has given the people a lot of the opposite.  It has been wet more that it has been dry, with little in the way of warmth or sunshine. I think it’s great. This is the type of weather that makes me love Maine so much this time of year.

The vegetation is finally coming to life. It seems everyday our property is more lush than the day before, and coastal Maine is more reminiscent of some magical place in the tropics. Our grass is growing faster than we can cut it, and the dandelions, well, they are just plain out of control. I love frolicking (because I have lots of time to frolic) through the yard making wishes while blowing dandelions in to the wind. Not everyone around here shares this favored childhood pastime, especially yard boy, aka mower man, aka dandelion hunter. I get that they are weeds, engaged in a hostile takeover of our yard, but I love em. And I will continue to make those dandy wishes, which involve plenty more rain (sorry customers!!).

Bring it. I love the greenery.

In other news, not relating to yoga, but actually injured dogs. Both dogs are on vet recommended down time.

No play, no off-leash, no stairs, no running, no boat. No fun.

Clyde injured his neck, and Ruby has an injured knee. It totally sucks. Keeping pit bulls on restricted activity is near impossible. They have no concept of when they should be taking it easy.

While my dogs can be very lazy at times, they are also full blown terriers. They patrol this property for critters like its the most important job in the world. They play hard, and run with reckless abandon. They love it. Being outside, chasing chipmunks, getting muddy, and tackling each other is what they were made to do. It’s like finding your calling in life, and then being told NO.

Hoping for fast healing, and an end to daily dog separations and down time.
