Self Portrait Project 52/1

As I prepare to launch my photography studio, I have decided to embark on a 52 week self portrait project to expand my creative and composition skills. The benefit of using myself as a model are three fold: 1.) I am forced to think outside the box 2.) I can really explore what works and doesn’t work and 3.) I have unlimited access to myself. I think interesting self portraits can be some of the most challenging photos to take, while I feel confident creating beautiful images of other people (and places for that matter).

I am not extremely comfortable behind the camera,so this first week was strange. But in the end I have some images I love. I embarked this week with an idea and vision, and randomly grabbed theses feathers as I walked out of the house. I didn’t intend on using them initially, but I fell in love with the feather sequence. The image above is my favorite, and the outtakes below are close seconds.
