“Beneath the makeup and behind the smile I am just a girl who wishes for the world.”
― Marilyn Monroe
It is said that beauty is only skin deep. If we look at the cultural use of makeup it is certaily true. In an instant we can remodel our faces, hide our flaws and become perfect. This perfection is double sided. Have we created a world that expects a level of beauty that is unobtainable. Have we forgotten that the true beauty lies inside. In a world where magazines & celebrities are all photoshopped (and I do mean all) do we place too much value upon our beauty… because our outer beauty will most certainly fade.
On the other side, like most women, I value my lipstick, eyeliner and precious concelor. I love that I can transform myself at the drop of a hat. I can be two women at one time. This week’s self portrait looks at the inside of the female ritual, my own ritual. My transformation from plain jane to made up.
